Safe and Inclusive Spaces

Why do we need queer spaces?

To meet others like us

A lot of queer people feel alone or alienated, and can find it hard to make friends with cis/het people. It is important to be friends with people like you, regardless of gender and sexuality.

To feel seen

Similarly, many with queer friends may not have the raw conversations about themselves that we can have in queer spaces without fear of the wrong people overhearing.

To share our stories

We have so many stories about growing up queer, or finding out late, or being supported, or anything else. It feel amazing to share these with those that understand!

To create a better future

With a strong knowledge of our past and present, we can figure out what we want for our future. Fighting for queer peoples future is best done when we come together as a group.

Hi

We are Queer Out Loud

Hey! Welcome to our website! We are QueerOutLoud (Sometimes abbreviated to QOL) and we like to think we’re the South West’s Queer Creatives Network. Now, what does that actually mean?

We bring together creatives of all kinds, and give them a platform to share their work. This can be with performance nights for poets, musicians, drag, burlesque etc, through our shop – Shed 752 – for any creatives with physical products, or on our creatives catalogue!

Our Approach

Everyone deserves a chance

First time reading poetry? We got you. Want to share a song that you aren’t sure about? We got you! Never sold your art before? We. Got. You! No matter where you are in your creative or queer journey, we will help you with whatever we can!

Access for all

The Venn-diagram of queer people and neurodivergent people is, let’s face it, a circle. We make our events as accessible as we can with the resources we have. This means: stim toys and headphones encouraged, timings as clear as possible, quiet spaces where available, noise levels kept under control etc. We are always open to more suggestions!

All art forms welcome

The first QueerOutLoud event was a poetry night that Founder Mimi hosted because they wanted to read about being queer to an audience that understood it. Then we discovered people wanted music so we added that in. Then we liked the idea of burlesque so we expanded to Performance Nights. Then we thought about all the physical artists so we opened the shop. Whatever kind of creative you are, we will find a way to amplify your voice and get your craft seen and heard!
